Weber State University Elizabeth Hall

This humanities classroom building for Weber State University consists primarily of classrooms, computer labs, teaching spaces, faculty offices, administrative spaces and a 200-seat auditorium.  Its purpose was to replace two existing humanities academic buildings, house all of the humanities programs under one roof, and be one of four cornerstones around the signature “Bell Tower Plaza” in the center of campus.

A primary design challenge was not only to fit the building onto a tight site, but to also not interrupt the existing main campus utilities tunnel.

Because of MHTN’s dedication to sustainable principles and energy efficient systems design, this facility will be seeking a LEED silver certification.  What makes this unique is that the facility was not originally charged with pursuing certification.  With the money saved by MHTN’s efforts, that certification pursuit is very applicable within the project’s budget.
What has resulted is a vastly more efficient facility foe the humanities department and a signature building that has earned numerous design awards.

  • 2009, Mountain States Construction, "Best Higher-Education/Research"
