Shadow Valley Elementary School

Shadow Valley Elementary is a K-6 magnet school focused strongly on environmental sustainability. As a magnet education program the school has an open enrollment policy allowing any student in Ogden City School District to attend the school as long as there is room.

The new magnet school has a curriculum based on environmental education, where the focus is to teach students to live sustainably and use the earth’s resources to a rate at which they can be replenished. The following are features incorporated into the building design to promote the curriculum and raise the student awareness of the built environment and its impact on the surrounding eco-systems.

Shadow Valley Elementary is one of the first schools in the nation designed and built following the performance standards of The LEED® for School Green Building Rating System and the school is currently being reviewed by the U.S. Green Build Council for LEED® certification (seeking LEED® Silver Certification).  The intent of LEED® for Schools is to build high performance schools which are healthy, durable, affordable and environmentally sound.
