University of Utah MED Study
While leading the master planning team for the University of Utah Health Sciences Campus Master Plan Update, MHTN was invited to create concepts for the Medical Education and Discovery Center (MED). The MED Center is the centerpiece of the master plan, creating a heart and hub for the Health Science Campus. Four MED concepts were explored, each inspired by the mountain geology of the Wasatch Front. One concept portrays peaked and undulating enclosures with open spaces carved between programs and offices. This revealed multi-level daylit trails that reinforce the themes of exploration and discovery. Exterior materials selected for the imagined concepts all relate to Utah’s regional palette with the objective to distinguish identity for the campus.
