Zions Bank Tower Reclad and Renovation

With stone and glass replacing the skyscraper’s original copper cladding, the Zions Bank Tower reflects its role as Zion’s flagship headquarters. Anchoring the corner of South Temple and Main Street, the updated tower and its neighbor to the west, Gateway Tower West, frames the entry into Salt Lake City’s Central Business District located south of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints campus headquarters.

The Zions Bank Tower was a challenging project due to recladding the building while maintaining occupancy for the majority of the tenants. By panelizing the curtain-wall system which included the stone skin, the team was able to provide a temporary exterior wall 4 feet in from the existing skin, allowing the removal of the existing skin in sections and replacement with the new exterior panels.

The team also worked with the initial layouts of City Creek Center so that there would be minimal impact to the tenants in the Zions Bank Tower during the construction of the shopping center.
